Communities+ was made by +Seth Sevenyoln (That's Me) becouse +Google  did not provide a way to search communities. We (That's me too) try to make it as easy as possible, however, Google could do it much better. For instance, Communities+ does not provide a way to choose

whether you want to search for a community or for posts from communities. Communities Plus is a simple, easy way to search G+ communities. I'm pretty sure there are other (and maybe better) alternatives out there, but this one is basic and very minimalistic.
